We're lucky in Balham, being on the  tube and overground.  Southern Rail have a great promotion which runs out on 30 April.  Seeing as the weather's good, it could be a timely idea to travel down to Brighton for just £3, if you book in advance.  If you pick the right trains, you could get back for £3 too.  So a £6 Brighton return, leaves you what you saved for beer and ice cream!

I checked today and the 10:02 on Friday 16 April is showing as just £3. I could return on Saturday 17 April at 15:49, also for £3.  And there's plenty of choice on other trains and destinations, some of which are just £4.50 or £6.
