You Only Live Twice!

'One life for yourself, and one for your dreams' ... Well, that's what I was singing my heart out to last night at the South London Choir held at Ravenstone School in Balham.

And what a night it was too. I couldn't recommend it highly enough. There's me walking in the door as a complete newbie and within 10 minutes I was chatting and singing merrily away with Gill and Mary and sharing their music sheets and laughing. A real tonic. Food for the soul - as one of the other songs aptly put it. Gill and Mary have been coming for nearly 3 years, when there were about 25 people and hardly any men! Last night, I lost count at 200 and a room stuffed full of bright, enthusiastic, cheery people from both genders and all ages. MJ, the choir leader is an absolute card. Her spirit creates the atmosphere which makes this group to my mind unique. She's the music teacher at Ravenstone and I swear any pupils in her lessons must have a passion for music and song. People come from all over - Kent, Kennington, North London, Streatham and of course Balham and everyone I spoke to, bar none, absolutely love coming.
Take a look at their website and facebook page if you want to know more, or just come along on a Tuesday night at 7.30. But please don't tell anyone. I reckon this is Balham's best kept secret.
