http://www.fatdelicatessen.co.uk/Now you've heard all about the planned Northern Line closures, are your plans for nights out in the West End being thwarted?  So here's a way to make the most of staying local.

Six of Balham’s finest restaurants have teamed up to offer residents during February and March, a great incentive to try out the fantastic mix of local restaurants at a great discount.  All you need is a Balham Midweek Bingo Card which you can download here. Take this with you when you eat at each on the six on the card, collect a stamp and a 10% discount on the final bill.  As soon as you get the full house, choose one of your favourites from the six and get another 20% off your bill when you eat there again.  You’ve got until the end of August to redeem the 20% offer, so If you’re planning a special meal this could be a great way to save 1/5th of the final price for up to 6 guests.

Sam Harrison, Manager at Harrisons on Bedford Hill explained.  "In a nutshell, we wanted to do something together as a small group of independent operators to help attract business in these difficult trading times. We are all owner operated independent offerings and though it would be good to pull our resources. Balham has a unique offering of independent restaurants/ bars and delis and we wanted to try and highlight this. All six of us offer something different, but something that compliments each other.”

Traditionally local businesses have always competed against each other to survive and fight for the same customers - but these forward thinking operators have decided to approach things from another angle.  Balham is one of the few areas of London that is not dominated by the mid market chain restaurants and so in terms of independent residential restaurants offers something very unique.

Participating restaurants are:

Harrison's, 15-19 Bedford Hill

Dish Dash, 11-13 Bedford Hill

Trinity Stores, 5 Balham Station Road

The Fat Delicatessen, 7 Chestnut Grove

Tabuca, 10 Bedford Hill

Lamberts, 2 Station Parade, Balham High Road

I had lunch at Dish Dash a couple of weeks ago and it was impossibly delicious. Lychee juice and haloumi and all sorts of yummy things, and I got one of the Bingo Cards at the end of the meal. A shame I don't live in Balham but I might be back if it's all that good.
