Fresh from his 'I'm a Celebrity, Get Me Outta Here' experience in the Australian jungle, Aggro Santos, our 22 year old Brazillian rapper, has landed back in his home town. Balham! Not that his feet have touched the ground. Launching his new single on 16 January with Kimberley Walsh - 'Like you Like', it's all been go, go go. But he's always got time for us lot in Balham and has taken time out to give us this interview. Thanks buddy!
Aggro Santos live from Balham
Aggro. You're big news in Balham. Twitter is alive with conversations about whether you come from Balham, or not! Can you set the record straight and tell us what your connection is to Balham and how come you live here!!
I was raised in Balham since the age of about 8 years old. I've seen it Safeways change to Morrisons then to Waitrose, Ive seen the KFC get shut down!! Too many childhood memories roaming up the high road day and night on my pushbike!!
Where do you go when you want to hang out in Balham? Do you have a favourite cafe or bar?
I like the Nando's in Balham of course.. but i must say the best food place there for me is "The Kebab Company" across the road. Best spot to go after a night out for a munch in my opinion! I also like the B @ 1 bar .. love the cocktails!
Now you're getting really famous, do you think you're going to stick around or move up into the Big Smoke or up West?
No I Love Balham, I would love to own a property there one day..
What about your lovely Mum? Couldn't help noticing how much big love you have for her. Does she live in Balham too? If she does, where does she like to go?
She has not long moved but she is in Tooting Bec and still goes to Balham Sainsbury's for all her shopping!
You've been busy! Balhampeople wrote about your new single with Kimberley when you were in the jungle and posted the Youtube link. How's the promotion been going since you got out?
The response has been wicked! It’s been battered all over tv and what not .. Now I’m just waiting on January so we can go full steam ahead as its not out until Jan the 16th!
Has being in the Jungle made the single even more popular?
It has made me more known, so I'd like to hope that my music becomes more popular!! Being in the jungle makes people see you.. How you are determines whether they follow you after!
How did it come about? You doing a single with Kimberley Walsh from Girls Aloud? That was a mighty coup, wasn't it! Tell me about how you two got together.
She is good mates with my label boss Gary Barlow and I'm a fan of girls aloud.. Spoke to mr GB about it and it happened!!
Where was the single recorded?
The single wasn't recorded in Balham unfortunately lol. It was in Steve Mac's studio in Parsons Green! Steve is the man behind Jls, The wanted And Susan Boyles hit records. An absolute pleasure to work with!
I hear you were helping Gillian McKeith out in the hotel in Australia with a possible single for her! So I'm thinking you can knock songs up in your bedroom?
Yeah I made her a beat for a laugh and sent it to her! She loves it and wants to release it but I can't unfortunately as my schedules packed until March!
What's it like being back in an urban surrounding after the jungle?
Its fantastic! its great to know u can walk over to a shop and order a meal as opposed to starving in a bush!
We loved getting to know you in the Jungle and were really impressed with your cool, calm, respectful manner. Does it help being so 'nice' working in the music industry?
The music industry is about the impression you let off.. No one likes a cocky snob.. If you're nice to those you work with, they will be nice with you, and in return work hard with you!
What's next for you after this single? Is Aggro going stratospheric?!! We want to keep you and Balham on the map so tell us how we can all support you.
After the single my album and more singles and tour!!! IF everyone in Balham bought my album I will be happy! :) GO BALHAM ¡VAMOS! X
