Where's the hot spots in Balham to watch the World Cup then?

The Regent has got to be up there as one of the best viewing experiences. With 4 big screens and 2 large TV screens you'll get a good view just about anywhere.

If you want to do it with some measure of comfort, Dean Marriott, the Manager at the Regent suggests you book yourself in advance one of their reservable tables for the princely sum of  £10 a head (redeemable off your bar bill).  Hurry though.  Table bookings for the first game, England v USA have already sold out.

Ben McGrath who lives locally was in there booking his table, for six of his friends.  He's a Liverpool supporter and watched them win the Euro victory and the FA Cup here when it was the Tup. "it's my lucky pub", he said, "there's always good banter, no idiots and a great crowd".

Dean's putting on a special refined World Cup menu.  Of course if you want to just come in and stand to watch the matches, there'll be plenty of room and you'll add to the atmosphere which by all accounts will be buzzing. To reserve a table email here, or call 020 8772 0546

Anyone planning on watching the World Cup games from The Regent? Or have you got other plans?  Do tell.....

Haven't been to Smoke since it opened. Is it OK? At home is the best plan, I reckon!

Like Ibiza at chuck-out time? Not my kind of thing. I tend to avoid those places like the plague.

I think I'll be at Smoke Bar, Tooting Bec for the World Cup. Or as you say, preferably at a friend's house where I can guarantee I won't be surrounded by plebs.

Have you tried Be At One? Or Adventure? It's like being back at school (for people of my age!) ;-) Deafening music, people screaming and shouting, and falling over ****ed after two sickly-sweet sugary cocktails...sheer hell!

18 year olds? In Balham!? Pray tell. I'm 22 and I always feel like the youngest in every pub I go to in Balham.

This sort of place is fine if you're a kid. There's nowhere (apart from indoors, of course!) for older people to go where they don't have to be surrounded by bellowing, ****ed-up 18 year-olds. Sad, but true - not just in Balham but just about everywhere. Odd when you consider we have all the disposable income.
