As part of the RSC Open Stages festival, Southside Players will be staging Julius Caesar – with a twist. This version won't be set in Ancient Rome but here in modern London.
A popular general rises to dominate the country – on the verge of dictatorship he is taken out by a group of well-meaning democrats. Unwilling to take over the country themselves, the power vacuum creates a civil war. Another dictator rises.
Inspired by the events of Spring 2011 and Paul Mason's blog 'Twenty reasons why it's all kicking off now' this production of Julius Caesar is set in 2012 in the very real and immediate climate of regime change, public unrest and twitter revolutions.
Using social media as part of the mis-en-scene the audience will be encouraged to keep their phones switched ON and to join the Twitter feed.
We are all in this together! Join the Twitter Revolution @Juliuscaesarsw
