Gun Shots at The Excelsior Night Club, Balham

Last night, in the closing hours of Tuesday 22 February 2011, 3 gun shots were heard being fired at the Excelsior Night Club on Balham High Road. The night was billed as an alcohol free under 18's night which turned into mayhem and spilled out onto Balham High Road.

Sceptical neighbour @ianfreeman took to Twitter 12 hours earlier to report "Under 18s event at Excelsior #Balham tonight. Stand by for hell on the streets nearby from about 11:30pm! 'No alcohol' - yeah, right!" It's not the first time that the residents of DuCane Court, across the High Road, have had to suffer at the mercy of the Excelsior Club, complaining to the Council about noise levels.

His words couldn't have rung more true. Only ten hours later, at around 12:30pm @behhodgson was tweeting "Basically the only club in Balham that looks like it could be the scene of a shooting, has been the scene of a shooting."

@StackzLDN joined in the tweeting "Rah its kicking oFf in bahlam tonight bare feds and Ppl locked in excelsier rave ting Screaming. Roads taped off!" {sic}

Perhaps Eastenders, insinuating that Balham was a gangland, wasn't as far off the mark as originally thought? The Police told @benhodgson that nobody had been hit in the fracas yet who wants this in Balham? As @bootlegsocial writes "all hell has broken out on Balham high road .. who would have kids hey!?".

Our Balham rap star Aggrosantos, currently touring in Ireland was up late last night on twitter and tweeted "shocking, shooting at an under 18's in Balham. Tut, tut".

Its insane, almost every time it is open there are fights outside, I saw a guy getting stabbed out there one night and the bouncers did nothing. Last night was a shambles all round. A friend and I tried to get in once and were told it was full. We then saw them letting in about 10 more people so went back and they said it wasnt our kind of place and we cannot come in - we are white guys so clearly not welcome. Shut it down now!

t's mental at the mo, i grew up In Stockwell, so am i used to trouble, non stop, but now i live in Balham & pay a huge amount to live in the area, seems pointless now, understand that everywhere has trouble but if my GF wants to walk home late at night, it is dodgy now, need to close PJ's & Excelsior.
