Crisis? What crisis?

My son, pictured below, has been through the Wandsworth National Child Measurement Programme and we've just been notified of the results. Apparently he's overweight - and not only that, just 1lb away from being obese.

August Summer Holiday
The government tell us all that we have a crisis on our hands and more than 1 in 5 children of Reception age are overweight or obese. Judging from my son's experience, I would have to seriously call into question these stats. If my son is overweight, then I am a monkey's uncle. What is more, the letter sent to me reassures mothers that 'some underweight children are perfectly healthy'. Overweight children however will be at risk of high blood pressure, heart disease, type 2 diabetes and the dreaded 'C' word, Cancer. My son, even at his current weight, is perfectly healthy too.
I spoke to Sheila Crouch of Wandsworth Primary Care Trust who agreed with me that the programme did not take into account common sense.
With the likes of so many services being 'pulled' in an instant, like the NHS Direct and Building Schools for the Future - can not this one go onto the scrap heap too. It's alarmist, patronising to parents and a waste of time. And, he's not the only one. Is anyone else with me on this one?
