In a letter posted by Sadiq Khan MP on a furzedown website, the text of which is below, he warns of 2 recent attempted abductions at the top of Streatham Common.

"I've received information regarding two incidents in Streatham (just on the

otherside of the Common) that may be of concern to local residents.

In both cases a man in a white van has made attempts to approach young girls

(11-12) as they walked along the road to school. The first incident took place

on 15th November at 8:30am on Becmead Avenue, the second on 16th November at 8am

at the junction of Becmead Avenue and Ockley Road.

The driver was in a white van with a black roof rack. In both cases he

attempted to engage the girls in conversation, and encourage them to approach

the van. Both girls ignored the request and got away safely.

The driver of the van is described as a tanned white male aged approximately 20

to 30 years with short black hair, slim athletic build with dark stubble. In

the first incident he was described as wearing navy bottoms with white stripes,

in the second a grey hooded top with the hood up.

I have been assured that Wandsworth and Lambeth police are investigating,

patrols will be stepped up and local schools have been informed.

DI Barry Smith is leading this investigation and I'd encourage anyone with

information to call the CID office on 020 8649 2062 or Crimestoppers anonymously

on 0800 555 111.

You can also reach the police on the non-emergency number by dialing 101. In an

emergency dial 999.

Please do not hesitate to get in touch with the police if you have any

information about this.

Your sincerely,

Sadiq Khan MP"
