The Travelodge in Balham has been in the pipeline for near enough 18 months so it's fantastic to see work finally beginning to renovate the dated and somewhat tawdry Steel House just under the railway bridge past Balham Railway Station.

Steel House Balham
Travelodge is the UK's fastest growing hotel chain. Here's a list of areas they still want to break in to in the South London area alone. Another Travelodge Hotel is already under construction in Tooting Broadway, above the old Woolworth's. This is all part of a publicised £100 million expansion plan bringing additional sites to fruitition by 2015. Furthermore Travelodge plans to have 1,100 hotels in Europe by 2025.
Most people in Balham seem pleased that not only will Steel House be getting a much needed make over but also that new customers will be coming into the area and making use of all that Balham has to offer. "It's good news all round really", says Amanda McCormack. "I can book my family in when they come to stay!"

it is good news! It's been a long time in the pipe line! I hope they are sure of their business plan, with another going up above old Woolies in Tooting Broadway too.

ReportWell, you were right! It's clearly for the hotel as scaffold going up on the entire building. Good news.

ReportICBW, but I think the work going on may well be for the station rather than the hotel.
